Misuse of State Property

The Professional Standards Division receives all reports of theft or misuse of state property.

State agencies are required by law to report to the NC State Bureau of Investigation when money or property is missing or is stolen.

North Carolina law requires state employees who are informed of or have evidence of misuse of state property by a state employee to report that information within three days to the reporting employee's immediate supervisor.

Then within 10 days, the information must be reported by the employee's immediate supervisor to the director of the NC State Bureau of Investigation.  Supervisors may contact the SBI by phone or email to obtain a copy of the report form Misuse of State Property.

Misuse of state property may include arson, attempted arson, damage, theft, or embezzlement among other examples.
