Administrative Services Assistant Director
Marshall Tucker has a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from East Carolina University and a master's degree in liberal studies from North Carolina State University. He has served with the SBI since 1987. He completed the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University in 1999. He has worked as a field agent, a criminal specialist in Professional Standards, and as Special Agent in Charge of the Capital District until he was appointed Assistant Director in 2009.
Field Operations Assistant Director
Greg Tart holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He joined the SBI in 1992 having served in law enforcement since 1989. He completed the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University in 2005. As a field agent, he investigated cases of homicides, drugs, and corruption as well as supervising these types of investigations. He served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Special Agent in Charge of the Capital District until his appointment as Assistant Director in 2011.
Professional Standards Assistant Director
Erik A. Hooks earned a bachelor's degree in political science from North Carolina State University and a master's degree in liberal studies also from North Carolina State University. He has served with the SBI since 1989. He completed the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University in 1998. He has worked as a field agent, a criminal specialist in Special Investigations, and as Special Agent in Charge of Professional Standards until his appointment as Assistant Director in 2005.
Special Operations Assistant Director
B. Renee Robinson holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's degree in criminal justice from East Carolina University. She has served with the SBI since 1988. She completed the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University in 1999. As a field agent, her primary work involved drug investigations in conjunction with federal agencies and task forces. She served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Special Agent in Charge of the Northeastern District until her appointment as Assistant Director in 2011.
State Crime Lab Assistant Director Judge
Joseph R. John, Sr. holds bachelor and master degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, attended Belmont Abbey College, and earned his juris doctorate from the UNC School of Law. He has worked in private practice, as a prosecutor, as a criminal defense attorney, and as a Legal Aid attorney. Judge John served in Greensboro as District Court Judge from 1980-1984 and Resident Superior Court Judge from 1984-1992, and on the NC Court of Appeals from 1992-2000. He held three positions in the NC Department of Motor Vehicles from 2008-2010 as Director of Hearings, Acting Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner. He has served the SBI since 2010 as acting director of the crime laboratory and was appointed Assistant Director in 2011.
