Air Wing

The Air Wing Section supports the SBI and assists local and federal enforcement with four Bureau aircrafts and three full-time agent-pilots.
The Bureau's planes are used for drug enforcement, surveillance, photo missions, reconnaissance, fugivite transport, searches, administrative transport, and training.
Drug Enforcement Surveillance
The SBI eradicates marijuana by helping local law enforcement from the air and on the ground.
The Bureau's Air Wing Section, along with planes from the NC National Guard and NC State Highway Patrol, fly the state looking for marijuana. Experienced agents can locate marijuana from the air.
North Carolina's eradication program continues to successfully reduce illegal cultivation and harvesting of domestic marijuana in the state.  In fiscal year 2007-2008, the program's operation resulted in discovery and destruction of 105,200 marijuana plants.
