NC Sex Offender Registry goes mobile with new app

Monday, February 06, 2012

There's a new tool to help you locate registered sex offenders near your home, school, local park or any location, a free app for iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch®
Use the app to search for registered North Carolina sex offenders by GPS location or street address from wherever you are.
You can search for all offenders within a one, three or five mile radius, and offenders’ home addresses are pinpointed with red markers.
Offenders’ names and addresses are listed below the interactive map. Clicking on an offender’s name brings up detailed information, including photos and a physical description. An additional click pulls up a list of the offender’s crimes requiring registration, including the age of the victim(s).
You can also sign up to get email alerts whenever a registered offender moves near your home, local school, day care center or any other address you choose, or to receive alerts about a particular sex offender.
The app was developed by the Department of Justice’s information technology staff using information submitted by local sheriffs to the NC Sex Offender Registry maintained by the State Bureau of Investigation.
The app is now available for download via iTunes® or at We hope to make it available for other platforms in the future.
