Text messages from Gateway Bank are a scam
Thursday, June 09, 2011
North Carolina consumers have reported getting text messages that claim to come from Gateway Bank and other banks. The message says that your card has been deactivated and asks you to call a phone number.
These texts are a scam. DO NOT respond to them. If you respond, you’ll be asked to provide your debit card number, expiration date and PIN—everything a thief would need to steal your money.
Debit card holders who have responded to the texts should contact Gateway Bank immediately at 1-800-523-4175 to block their cards.
