Statement from AG Cooper on arrest in trooper shooting

“Once again, we’re reminded of the risks that law enforcement officers take every day to protect us. Thanks to quick work by our State Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, a dangerous suspect is off the streets and our state is safer for it. We continue to keep Trooper Potts in our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery.”
State Bureau of Investigation agents, working closely with Durham Police, State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies, began an investigation Monday evening after SHP Trooper Michael L. Potts was shot and wounded during a traffic stop in Durham.
This morning, SBI agents took suspect Mikel Edward Brady into custody on warrants from Vermont. Brady was arrested in Durham this afternoon for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for the shooting of Trooper Potts.
The investigation is continuing with SBI agents conducting interviews and searches to gather additional evidence.
