Two specialized SBI units work to provide the right information to the right people at the right time.
Criminal Intelligence Unit
We collect, classify, and disseminate criminal intelligence information to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
We are North Carolina’s link to law enforcement intelligence in other states and federal agencies such as the FBI's VICAP program and Homeland Security. We also serve as the state liaision to overseas law enforcement through INTERPOL.
We follow case leads to give information to investigators and prosecutors, analyze data such as telephone records, identify links between suspects and organizations, and create timelines to help investigators and prosecutors piece together elements of a crime.
We staff the SBI Operations Center which is the point-of-contact for law enforcement agencies as well as for citizens to submit leads on criminal activity and to solve Unsolved Crimes
We also coordinate the North Carolina Criminal Information Exchange (NCCIX) whose membership is comprised of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that meet monthly to share information on criminal activities that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
ISAAC — Information Sharing and Analysis Center
ISAAC helps collect, analyze, and disseminate information about possible terrorist and criminal threats, including information about homeland security, gang activity and high intensity drug trafficking. The center is served by law enforcement partners from state, local, and federal agencies as well the NC Departments of Public Health, Agriculture, and Emergency Management.
The community is a valued partner with ISAAC and is viewed as the first line of defense against criminal and terrorist activity. Members of ISAAC are available to present to law enforcement and community groups.
