Attorney General Josh Stein Honors Five Triad Area North Carolinians with 2023 Dogwood Awards
(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein today honored five North Carolinians in the Triad with the Attorney General’s Dogwood Award. These awards are given out annually to recognize people who are working to improve the health, safety, and well-being of their fellow North Carolinians.
Recipients in the Triad are:
Detectives Tori Kennedy and Josh Schultz
“When officers respond to domestic violence incidents, they have a small window of opportunity to help victims get support and resources to find safety,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “Detectives Kennedy and Schultz are using and – teaching – evidence-based screening tools to determine when to intervene, so more officers can better respond to high-risk calls and more victims can leave violent, dangerous situations.”
Detectives Tori Kennedy is an SVU detective with the Burlington Police Department. Detective Josh Schultz is an SVU and Major Crimes detective with the Burlington Police Department. Both are trainers for the Lethality Assessment Program, a set of evidence-based criteria to help officers determine risk levels for victims of domestic violence and know when to get them connected to local domestic violence service providers.
Catherine Johnson
“Catherine Johnson’s work with the Guilford Family Justice Center is saving lives,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “She helps ensure that people in unsafe relationships or households can get mental, financial, and social support to find safety and build healthy futures.”
Catherine Johnson is the director of the Guilford Family Justice Center.
Rep. Kyle Hall
“Rep. Hall used his experience as both a Realtor and a legislator to help protect North Carolina homeowners,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “He championed the Unfair Real Estate Agreements Act, which is protecting North Carolinians from greedy, deceptive real estate companies.”
Rep. Kyle Hall represents District 91 (Forsyth and Stokes counties) in the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Chancellor Harold Martin
“Chancellor Harold Martin has led an era of tremendous growth for NC A&T,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “His leadership has helped make the university a leading HBCU with the largest student enrollment in the nation and its graduates are achieving great things across the world.”
