ESP CERTIFICATION RESOURCES:

- ESP Online Application Form (to go live June 1, 2026)
- Essential Standards Program (ESP) will be offered to small and rural agencies as a “gateway to accreditation.”
- This professional certificate program will introduce law enforcement agencies to the concepts of accreditation and is comprised of 20 standards deemed essential for law enforcement agencies to reduce risk and litigation.
- This certificate program is voluntary for law enforcement agencies in North Carolina, and there is no fee for participation.

- NCLEA Advanced Crosswalk (color coded document)

PREPARING FOR AN INITIAL ON-SITE:
(*Re-Accreditation is a three year cycle with an annual report required in addition to yearly proofs. The re-accreditation process is automatic (no application needed) and begins on your initial awards date from your respective Commission.)
