The Detective Sergeant should be responsible for viewing all cases assigned to the Detective under their command.  Train and supervise subordinate employees, ensuring productivity, adherence to policy, effective performance evaluation, and the individual skill development.  Promptly respond to call outs to supervise investigator working major criminal cases.  Promptly supervise evidence collection and management to insure accountability and professionalism.   Promptly review cases to determine crime patterns and issue effective Plans of Action.  Testifies in court sessions when necessary, monitors the testimony of investigators.

Assumes responsibility for the effective operations of all Investigative Units under their command.  Inspects, assists and instructs when necessary all investigators under their command in proper discharge of their duties.  Prepares daily and monthly reports relating to the activities of the units under their command.  Respond to calls for investigative assistance needed by other divisions within the department.  Review and assign cases to investigators and patrol officers.  Develop and analyze crime data for determining patterns and staffing. Review supplemental reports for investigations.  Review and compile investigative reports for District Attorney’s office (DA Summary).  Review search warrants for accuracy and completeness.   Serve subpoenas for investigators
