The Garner Police Department is seeking candidates desiring a community-oriented law enforcement career.
Police Officers are responsible to perform protective service work in the prevention, detection, and investigation of violations of the law. Officers are assigned to a patrol platoon and work rotating shifts. The career development program offers an outstanding opportunity for professional enhancement and advancement in salary. The starting salary is $45,038. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Police Sergeant or Platoon Leader.
With tenure, training and above-average levels of performance, officers can compete for a variety of specialized positions and promotions. They include Canine Handler, Traffic Safety Officer, School Resource Officer, Investigator, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiator, Field Training Officer, and others.
Officers are provided with state-of-the-art equipment, take-home cars (for those in compliance with Department policy), uniforms and all related apparel.
The current starting salary for all new police officers is $45,038. However, salary incentives may be provided for the following credentials: Prior law enforcement experience (Based upon total years of experience)
Specialized training/skills (as determined by the Chief of Police)
Applicant must be a US citizen, 21 years of age or older, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license is also required.
Current status must include one of the following: Currently sworn as a law enforcement officer in the State of North Carolina;
Hold a current North Carolina Law Enforcement Certification; or
Have two (2) years, full time, out-of-state law enforcement experience with no more than three (3) years break in service.
