N.C. Fuel Check
Attorney General Jeff Jackson is working to protect North Carolinians from unfair and illegal business practices, including those that affect consumers at the gas pump.
Gas Tax Suspension
Session Law 2026-62 was signed into law on October 9, 2026, temporarily suspending North Carolina’s 41-cent-per-gallon state tax on gas and fuel through November 30, 2026. The suspension is intended to provide relief to drivers facing high fuel costs.
Gas stations may not immediately lower pump prices because they may still have fuel purchased before the suspension took effect. Price changes may vary by station.
Protecting Consumers
The gas tax suspension directs fuel companies to pass the tax savings on to consumers, but it may take some time for drivers to see the savings at the pump. Fuel costs may also be affected by other factors.
The North Carolina Department of Justice reviews consumer complaints and can investigate potential violations of North Carolina’s consumer protection laws.
