(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein today announced that Tom Brewer and Sheriff Alan Norman have received the Attorney General\u2019s Dogwood Award. These awards are given annually to honor North Carolinians who are dedicated to keeping people safe, healthy, and happy in their communities.<\/p>\n
Tom Brewer<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cNot only is Tom Brewer working every day to keep people safe as a fire fighter \u2013 he\u2019s also advocating on behalf of his fellow first responders,\u201d said Attorney General Josh Stein. \u201cAs the President of the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association of North Carolina, Tom has spoken out in support of fire fighters\u2019 having a greater voice in contracting, promoting public safety, and serving their communities. I appreciate his hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n Tom Brewer is the president of the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association of North Carolina. He has been in public service for 23 years, after beginning his career as a U.S. Air Force crash and rescue fire fighter. Today he serves as a city of Charlotte front-line fire fighter and captain. He is also the president of his local union, IAFF Local 660.<\/p>\n Sheriff Alan Norman<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSheriff Alan Norman is doing important work to protect public safety in Cleveland County,\u201d said Attorney General Josh Stein. \u201cFrom his commitment to keeping people safe from sex abuse to his tireless work to hold the dealers and traffickers who profit from people\u2019s addiction accountable, I appreciate his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheriff Alan Norman is currently serving his third term as Cleveland County\u2019s sheriff. A second generation law enforcement officer, Sheriff Norman has worked in law enforcement for more than 35 years.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is a shame that sex offenders prey on our children and society,\u201d said Sheriff Alan Norman. \u201cBoth are our future and it is my job to make sure that the public is informed of sex offenders within Cleveland County.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheriff Norman also added: \u201cAs long as I am Sheriff, we will continue to aggressively go after not only the street dealer, but all the way up the chain to the importer, in an attempt to make our community drug free, which lowers the crime rate.
