Attorney General Jeff Jackson Celebrates Law Enforcement Safety and Support Month at North Carolina Department of Justice

RALEIGH – Attorney General Jeff Jackson has declared May as Law Enforcement Safety and Support Month at the North Carolina Department of Justice. The Attorney General is also publishing today an open letter to the families of North Carolina law enforcement officers, thanking them for their sacrifice and support.

“Supporting law enforcement is right at the heart of our mission at the Department of Justice,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. “Our officers risk their safety every day to protect our families and communities. We need to make sure they have the support and resources they need to do their jobs well and defend our state.”

This month, the Attorney General Jackson has been traveling the state highlighting NCDOJ’s work to uplift our state’s law enforcement communities. On May 1, the Attorney General held a roundtable discussion in Greenville with more than 20 law enforcement partners followed by a press conference focused on combating the fentanyl epidemic. During the press conference, Attorney General Jackson expressed support for a $3,000 bonus for North Carolina law enforcement officers currently being discussed in the state legislature.

Attorney General Jackson also hosted NCDOJ’s annual Peace Officers’ Memorial Day Ceremony, meant to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Attorney General also spoke at fallen officer ceremonies for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Alamance County law enforcement agencies.

Earlier this month, the Attorney General joined Basic Law Enforcement Training cadets in Asheville for a sunrise workout. This year, Attorney General Jackson has personally met with over three dozen federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
