Tickets to the upcoming UNC-Duke basketball game are hard to come by. So when someone used Craigslist to try to sell seats to the big game, it got the attention of police in Carrboro. They arranged a meeting with the seller, determined his tickets were fakes, and arrested him.It used to be harder to make fake tickets. Today’s print-at-home tickets are printed on plain paper and it isn’t difficult to create a legitimate-looking fake, complete with a barcode. Crooks can also use computers, copiers and printers to create phony traditional-style tickets on thick paper stock that can look and feel like the real thing.Don’t risk hundreds or thousands of dollars on seats that might not exist. Instead, buy tickets from trusted sources. If you aren’t certain the tickets are real, take a pass. The view from your couch is pretty good, and your wallet will thank you for it.
