(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein announced today that Dr. Jannetta Jordan pled guilty to four felonies in Wake County Superior Court for Medicaid fraud. Dr. Jordan was convicted of Felony Fraud by a Medical Assistance Provider, Felony Accessing a Government Computer to Defraud and two counts of Felony Obstruction of Justice. Dr. Jordan, who has already served two years in jail, was sentenced to 34 to 80 months in prison, suspended for 36 months of supervised probation. The court ordered Dr. Jordan to pay restitution of $897,942.33 as a civil judgment and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service.
“Billing Medicaid for services not rendered pushes up the cost of the program and wastes taxpayer money,” said Attorney General Stein. “My office will continue to identify, investigate and prosecute these cases that not only steal taxpayer money but also leave some of North Carolina’s most vulnerable citizens potentially without access to needed health care.” The conviction of Dr. Jordan resolves allegations that between 2009 and 2015, Dr. Jordan submitted fraudulent billing claims to Medicaid for behavioral health services that she had not performed, including billing for more than 25 hours of services on 476 separate days. After she had been charged with Medicaid fraud, Dr. Jordan obstructed justice by paying money to patients to sign false affidavits stating they had received the counseling services. Dr. Jordan was a licensed professional counselor who owned and operated Jordan Counseling and Consulting in Fayetteville and Raeford, North Carolina. Dr. Jordan provided behavioral health counseling and services. This conviction was obtained with the assistance of North Carolina Department of Justice Medicaid Investigations Division, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Medical Assistance, and the cooperation of the Honorable Lorrin Freeman, District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 10.
