Attorney General Josh Stein Launches Statewide College Tour

Release date:
1/25/2018

Conversations Will Discuss Solutions to Help Colleges and Students Navigate Loans and Combat Sexual Assault and Substance Misuse

(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein today launched a statewide college tour to discuss three issues that impact many college students: student loans, sexual assault and substance misuse. Today’s initial event was held at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and future events will be held at other college campuses across the state.

“College represents an incredible opportunity for students. They get to learn new things, prepare for their futures and meet different kinds of people,” said Attorney General Stein. “But, as many know too well, college presents risks, too. I hope that at this event students will share their views and get some helpful information about how to protect themselves.”

The event includes panel conversations on each topic with Attorney General Stein, legal experts from the North Carolina Department of Justice, and faculty, administration, and students from the university. Panelists and attendees will discuss the challenges that students and campus officials face and identify resources and strategies that can help students. The tour will also give Attorney General Stein and the NCDOJ the opportunity to hear directly from students and campus officials about their experiences to better inform future efforts to protect students.
