Thinking about purchasing a log home kit that you saw in a magazine or sales brochure?

Read these tips before you order a kit, sign a contract or pay any money.

Ask for plans. Ask the log home company to send you a copy of the plans and a list of all of the materials they will provide before you order the kit.
Have plans reviewed. Have the plans and the list of supplies reviewed by contractors, finance companies, subdivision officials and local housing code officials. Make sure you’ll be able to build the house where you want to and at the price you’re expecting to pay.
Read your contract carefully. Make sure you read your contract carefully and ask questions before you sign it. Ask to have a paragraph written into the contract that allows you to get your deposit back and get out of the deal if problems occur.
